Thrift Store Item to Sell on eBay - Alpaca Sweaters

The alpaca is an animal related to the llama, looks like a long-haired, shaggy llama, and grows thick, long, soft wool. The wool from an alpaca is similar to sheep's wool or mohair, but it is softer and silkier and takes much longer to grow. Therefore, Alpaca fleece is quite expensive and in high demand all over the world. Alpaca does almost as well as cashmere. As always, the larger sizes will bring a higher profit, but don't leave an Alpaca sweater behind in a thrift store! Here are a few recently completed listings for Alpaca sweaters. All listings are for used or pre-owned items that you can pick up in thrift stores for just a few dollars. Notice that all of these items sold for over $100!

VINCE GREY SHAWL CASHMERE ALPACA CARDIGAN SWEATER M

Congratulations to Ginny and Shel for winning the two $50 Walmart Gift Cards! Stay tuned for more great giveaways to come.

Free eBay Coach eBook and Free Trial at Stamps.com

How about 2 freebies at once?

You can try Stamps.com for free. Stamps.com enables you to do everything you can do at the Post Office from the convenience of your desk (in your pajamas if you want)! You can:

Print stamps
Print shipping labels
Print directly on envelopes
Add Stamps.com insurance
Add Delivery Confirmation™ to anything
Add Delivery Confirmation free to your Priority Mail®
Track shipments and provide tracking numbers to your customers

I have been using Stamps.com for over 5 years. I avoid the post office at all costs. I print all my postage at home and my mail carrier just picks everything up at my door each day. (Schedule pickups thru USPS.com. I schedule mine a month at a time.)

Stamps.com enables you to print any kind of postage, including international. I don't have to worry about getting to the post office before they close, getting out in bad weather to go to the post office, or wasting my valuable standing in long lines. Stamps.com also provides records of all your postage prints, so when customers inquire about their package, research is easy. Here is a sample of what the print record looks like (from my Stamps.com account). That day I shipped quite a few items. It was pouring down rain and I didn't have to get out in the rain and drag all my stuff to the post office. (Click the image to enlarge.)

Here is how to get your two freebies.

1)Choose any eBook from my website and choose the Trial Pay option. The eBook will be free. Maybe there is one you haven't read yet.

2)After clicking the Trial Pay button, and you arrive on the Trial Pay page, choose the Stamps.com offer. Just sign up with Stamps.com no-risk 4 week trial on the next screen. You will be asked to enter your name, address (for postage printing purposes) and email address. You must be a new Stamps.com customer to qualify.

FAQ's about the Stamps.com offer:

How does the No-Risk Trial work?

New customers are eligible for the 4 Week No-Risk Trial. Simply cancel before the trial period ends and you will not be charged. If you like the service, do nothing and your account continues automatically.

What do I get for trying the service?
Your Stamps.com account automatically starts with $5 free postage to use during your trial.

How much does it cost?
If you decide to keep the service the cost is $17.95/month plus the cost of postage you print. No hidden costs, cancel anytime. You can buy postage in batches of $10, $25, $50, or more.

Do I need special labels to print postage?
No. Stamps.com allows you to print postage on standard labels, envelopes or plain paper. (Note: I use plain paper. I am cheap! I just use regular white paper and clear carton/packaging tape. It is so much cheaper than labels! I buy the tape at Costco or Sam's in a multipack for about $15.)

Click here to get started. Stop wasting your time and energy going to the post office!

UPDATE: Several sellers have contacted me asking why I don't use Paypal shipping. Stamps.com is more user friendly when it comes to international shipments. It allows you to print any type of international postage, whereas Paypal does not. I use First Class International on a daily basis and Paypal does not offer this option. Using Stamps.com is the only way I can print int'l postage from home. (I've also tried Endicia and found it was not user friendly.) Another drawback with Paypal shipping is the way the postage prints on full pages - the top half is the shipping label, the bottom half is the seller's record. (Unless this has changed?) I found it very wasteful as far as paper and labels are concerned. Stamps.com lets you print 5 labels to a page instead of just one.

Thrift Store Item to Sell on eBay - Vintage Pyrex Amish Pattern

Vintage Pyrex is highly collectible and a good seller on eBay. There are so many patterns out there, but this post will focus on the blue and white Amish pattern. This is the one we had in my home when I was growing up. I remember my mom mixing brownie batter in the big white bowl with the "funny ladies" on the outside.

You can find the single pieces (bowls, casserole dishes, butter dishes, baking pieces, etc.) at thrift stores for $1-$3 each. Also check garage sales and estate sales. Here are a few recently completed listings for vintage Pyrex in the Amish pattern.

Stay at Home Moms - More Ways to Make Money from Home

Since having my first child back in 1994, when the internet was in its infancy, I was constantly on the prowl for ways to make money from home because I desperately wanted to be a stay at home mom. (And that was before it was cool.) That is an old pic of my kids and me, circa 1998.

SAHMs had very few resources back then other than playgroups, and of course no blogs, online groups, or forums to interact and communicate with other moms in the same situation. I've done everything possible (legal!) to avoid a "real" job including cleaning houses, babysitting other children, telemarketing (YUCK!), making and selling crafts, data entry, and bulk mailings. Those types of jobs pretty much stunk.

Once the internet became so accessible and affordable, I started trying everything out there to make money. Some things worked, some didn't. eBay is the jewel in the crown for me, but I have also tried and/or currently do many other things, too. The key to making money from home is to do a lot of different things. Here is a list of ways you can really make money online - without upfront costs, starter kits, or any other investment. Maybe these ideas will work for you, too.

Surveys. Below is a list of sites that pay you to take surveys. I've done some of these and they do pay.

The Survey Doctor

Ipsos

Panda Research

SendEarnings

Product Reviews. Several sites offer payment for your written review. You don't have to have a blog. You don’t have to purchase anything. Use what is in your home already. Check ReviewStream and ePionions. You can submit product review videos to ExPoTV. I did quite a few of these. If you are just dying to see them, click here. You can also sign up at Vindale Research.

Writing for pay. Of course my favorite is eHow, but you can also make money on Bukisa, Suite 101, and Associated Content.

Photography. Submit photos to Shuttershock, I Stock Photos, and Camera Dollars. You can also Google “Get paid to submit photos” for more sites.

Don't forget SwagBucks. I got 2 $10 Starbucks cards in the mail yesterday. All you do is use their search engine and you get points that you can redeem for free stuff. Click here to sign up for SwagBucks if you aren't already using it.

Check out these options and you might find some easy ways to make money from home using your computer. I gotta say, it sure beats cleaning somebody's house!

Are You Wasting Money on Packaging Your eBay Items?

Packaging can be tricky. You want your item to arrive intact, not damaged, and looking professional. But, are you over-packaging your items to the point where you are paying more for shipping?

eBay sellers are always looking for ways to cut costs, especially since our costs are always rising. Think about it, eBay fees increase, postage fees increase, and the cost of doing business increases all the time. We have to stay on our toes and continuously re-evaluate our processes to find ways to cut costs, without sacrificing quality.

Examine your shipping process. For example, some sellers of children’s boutique clothing have been brainwashed to believe that they must wrap the clothing in tissue paper and tie it with a fancy ribbon. Where did this idea come from? From traditional brick and mortar boutique shops who package their items that way.

If you are just starting out on eBay, you are not an established brick and mortar (or even eCommerce) boutique, you don’t have the budget for expensive wrapping. You can easily cut this cost – it just is not necessary.

Clear plastic works just as well, looks professional, is inexpensive, and protects clothing if the package should get wet in transit. When you order clothing from major catalog retailers or online department stores, doesn’t your order usually come wrapped in plastic? It is perfectly acceptable.

In some cases, reducing your packaging by just one ounce can mean the difference in a few dollars per package. I’ve seen it happen myself, especially on first class and international shipping. By trimming the packaging just a bit so that the weight stays below a certain threshold, I can save $2 on one package sometimes. Add this up over 100 or so packages a month and you have a substantial savings. This is called working smarter, not working harder!

Look on eBay for plastic packing materials and lightweight poly mailers. You can get these for just a few cents each when purchased in bulk. Below is where I purchase my shipping supplies - yep, on eBay!

Value Mailers: White poly mailers with self-sealing strip (great for First Class domestic and First Class International.)

In Motion Gear: Clear plastic bags with flap. The 9x12 size is perfect for golf shirts (trust me, I've used thousands!), sweaters, most adult clothing.

Hope this helps you save some money on shipping!

While we are on the subject of electronics, have you heard of this cool gadgety thing called the Magic Jack? (Yes, I am a gadget freak.) It is a new service that gives you a number, call waiting, voice mail, caller ID, and free directory assistance in one compact little phone jack. The "Magic Jack" is actually a USB phone jack that plugs into any computer with USB ports. Then, you plug a phone into the other end allowing you to make or receive calls for free. Thrift Store Item to Sell on eBay - Tennis Apparel

Spring is in the air, and tennis is not far behind. Gently worn tennis apparel is a good seller, and plentiful in thrift stores! Here are a few tips for selling pre-owned tennis clothing.

Focus on performance fabrics such as like Nike Dri fit, Nike Sphere Dry, Adidas Climacool, Under Armor, etc. You will get the most money for these types of fabrics.

Look for tennis apparel in thrift stores, garage sales in tennis communities, and at TJ Maxx and Marshall's. You can find some huge deals.

Women's items sell better and are easier to find than men's.

Concentrate on leading brands including Nike, Nike Dri Fit, Nike Seamless, Nike Sphere, Under Armour, Adidas, Avia, Tail, New Balance, Jamie Sadock, and Ellesse. Click here to read more about selling Jamie Sadock tennis apparel on eBay.

Look for the tennis skirts with the shorts made into them under the skirt. You can find these for around $3 at thrift stores and garage sales. These are really the only kind that sell very well on eBay. Look for these in the women's and children’s or girl’s section at thrift stores. Sometimes, tennis skirts are confused with a girl's skirt and are placed in the wrong section of the store. Below are a few listings for tennis clothing that have recently sold on eBay. All of these examples are for pre-owned items.

Nike Tennis Dress size S (4-6)

Nike Fit Dry Fit women's tennis skirt/skort EUC XS 0-2

Nike Dri fit Tennis outfit top & skirt size S/M

Click here for my free list of thrift store items to sell on eBay. If you don't have access to thrift stores or garage sales, you can find tennis apparel through drop shippers.
