$18 Thrift Store Item Sells for $1,799

Wow, another amazing sale by a regular person just like you! Karen posted this sale on my Facebook group this week:

So here is the back story, directly from Karen:

"I was in a used bookstore and the cards just caught my eye. I hesitated paying $18 for used oracle cards but I paid attention to my intuition. I looked them up when I got home and couldn't believe what they were listed for. Someone on Amazon had them listed for as much as $7,500. There were 2 sets in the $2,500 range. I did a whole lot of research on them. I knew they were pretty rare but didn't think I would get that much for them. I had nothing to lose so I listed them at $2,400. Over the course of 4 months, I gradually lowered the price. I was completely surprised and amazed when I logged on to my computer and saw they sold for $1,799.

This is the first set of oracle or tarot cards I have ever sold but I do have a wide variety of things in my eBay store. I generally just sell books on Amazon.

My profit is $1,474 after Amazon fees, postage, and insurance. I shipped them with express mail with signature required and insurance. The insurance company would only insure up to $1,500 but that's good enough.

Of course I am thinking there's a chance something could go wrong with the sale. They might want to return or something else could happen to the package. That's why it's insured and has signature required. But it's silly to waste time and energy worrying about that. I believe we all get what we think about and if we focus on bad things that might happen, then they might. It's worth the risk. I'm absolutely holding he money until I'm sure nothing will go wrong. I was in banking 27 years before I retired and I'm pretty cautious about spending money I don't have. I've seen what it can do to people.

It's all worth the risk. I've been selling for 13 years and my philosophy is to treat people with respect and kindness and have a sense of humor. Sure, I've let myself get annoyed once in a while but only until I remember it's just not worth it to lose my positive attitude."

Thanks so much for sharing Karen, and congrats on this fantastic sale!

eBay Consignment Sellers Needed in Many Cities!

eBay consignment is big business.  The average American household contains over 300,000 items. According to professional organizer Regina Lark,

"The average US household has 300,000 things, ranging from paper clips to ironing boards. And US children make up only 3.7% of the planet's population of children, but own 47% of all children's toys and books around the globe."

Couple that with the fact that only a slim 5% of the US population sells on eBay, either part time, full time, or just when needed. So in a nutshell:

305 million Americans don't know how to sell on eBay, and their homes are full of 300,000 items that can be sold online.

People everywhere need the services of eBay sellers. If you are looking for a way to grow your business and use your eBay skills in a different way, please join my directory here.

Gigantic Church Rummage Sale Roswell, GA Aug 4 - 6

Listen up, Atlanta people!  I have been helping my church set up for their annual garage sale. The proceeds go to the Job Networking program, which is the largest of its kind in the Southeast. Last year, this sale raised $38,000 for the program, which has helped thousands of people find jobs since 1997. RUMC Job Networking has been featured on ABC World News, on Clark Howard's show, and even in the Wall Street Journal. This is a ministry I am passionate about because I know it works and it changes lives.

Inventory is pouring in - we can't get it out on the sales floor fast enough. Stuff is coming in by the truckload and the church has been filling up 2 storage units of merchandise for the sale over the last few months. Volunteers are working all week to get the sale set up and items priced. This is a massive undertaking, one of the biggest church sales in the Atlanta area, and one of the most organized sales I have ever seen.

You won't want to miss this event - there are thousands of items and they are priced to sell.

$1.50 Thrift Store Find Sells for $1,350 on eBay

These are the finds that eBay sellers dream of. Amber recently shared on my Facebook Group that she found this unique little journal at a thrift store in Kerrville Texas for $1.50. Amber said,

"I thought it was cool and might sell as a Father's Day gift. As I was preparing to take pictures of it, I noticed a tiny little signature in the brass. It was my research on the signature that caused me to price it that high. If I hadn't seen that, I would have priced it around $40."

The item is a Gabriella Crespi signed 1970's bark and brass cork skin journal guestbook. Gabriella Crespi is an Italian designer famous for her unique furniture designs.

Here is a screen shot of Amber's sale. She took a Best Offer of $1,350 on the item and it took about 3 weeks to sell.
