eBay Will Announce Fee Changes Next Week - Stay Calm

After the eBay Q4 07 earnings call and execs alluding to new fee changes, some members on my eBay groups and forums are beginning to panic. Let's stay calm until we have something to panic about.

The announcement will come some time next week, according to newly appointed CEO John Donahoe. Restructuring could be anything from free gallery, to reduced or free listing fees, to reduced FV fees. We will just have to wait and see. Click here if you are stressing out over the upcoming "unnknown" fee changes.

As mentioned in earlier blog posts and on the eBay coach forum, I have begun my duties at Power Seller King. PSK is a paid gig, so naturally, I'm spending alot of time posting there. (Can you blame me?) If you haven't already, please go to Power Seller King and subscribe. You will find 3-5 daily posts regarding eBay news, what to sell, celebrity and charity auctions, and eBay controversies. As always, I encourage you to comment and leave a link to your eBay store or blog.

Let's all take a deep breath and sit tight until the fee change announcement next week.

New Podcast - Using Social Sites Like Facebook to Grow Your Business

35-minute podcast explains exactly how to use StumbleUpon, Facebook, and Digg to network and grow your eBay business. Keep in mind that the idea behind interacting on these sites is NOT to push your eBay products, put up a bunch of repetitive ads, or sell your "stuff." That won’t work, and it isn’t the point anyway.

You’re going to use these sites to make connections, talk to people, see what they are doing, ask questions, find out what they know about, and expose yourself to more people. These people may do eBay, they may not. You’re going to want to join groups on these sites – such as eBay groups, business groups, ecommerce groups, internet groups, work at home groups, and local groups in your area, what ever your interests may be.

You want to step outside your comfort zone and expose yourself to new things. Imagine these social sites like they are a huge trade show. Everyone there has something to offer. We already know that or they wouldn't be there in the first place. But the more people you talk to, the more opportunities you have to learn, make connections, and meet people who can tell other people about you. These sites are not the place to push your products on people – it will not work!

Also, I've written a new mini-eBook about items to buy at garage sales to resell for profit. Feel free to share this link with others in your groups and forums who may be starting out on eBay and aren't sure about what to look for at garage sales.

The next podcast will address the pros and cons of drop shipping. That seems to be a hot topic.

How to Make a Profit Selling Used Clothing on eBay

One question I am commonly asked about eBay selling is, "How can you make money selling used clothing? Why would anyone buy it?"

First of all, you must understand the customers who buy used clothing. Americans have somewhat of a disposable attitude with regard to clothing - may of us wear it for one season and then throw it out or donate it. Many international customers don't think this way. They have an eye for quality, fine fabrics, and name brands that last for decades. In my experience, international customers regularly purchase fabrics like cashmere, wool, and silk, and brands such as Ralph Lauren, Laura Ashley, and Hugo Boss.

Other buyers may know quality but purchasing a $100 item is not in their budget. Consider this example of Dansko clogs. Some consumers simply do not mind wearing gently used items if they can significantly save money buying them on eBay. Status may be an important issue, but some consumers don't have the money to support their fashion choices. They turn to eBay.

I have tried selling EUC children's clothing, and I only found a few items to be profitable - such as heavy wool coats, snowsuits, and leather boots. I have found men's and womens clothing to be much more profitable. Much of your success selling EUC clothing will depend on your access to it. Furthermore, it seems that eBay is becoming oversaturated with children's boutique sellers, and if you're selling on eBay to make money, you may want to expand your product line to include men's and women's clothing.
